THE PURIFIER OF HEARTS & THE SPIRIT OF MANNERS

Two books on good manners and the etiquette of relationship Between Master and Disciple, on the path of purification of soul (or tazkiyat Al-Nafs). The importance of this topic cannot be over emphasized. The Quran says in Suratul Shams,"Successful indeed is the one who purifies it (the soul) and doomed is the one that corrupts it"(verses 10 and 11).The original version of the first book was written in 1303 A.H (1885 C.E) by Al Hajj Abdallah Ibn Muhammad Niass (1848- 1922) one of the greatest Tijani masters in the Senegambian region. The second book of this compilation happened to be the first authored book of Shaykh Ibrahim Niass, spiritual heir and son of the first named author, Al Hajj Abdallah Ibn Muhammad Niass. As you may have observed, the two works deal with the topic of the sulûkiyāt (sciences that help guide the novice in his spiritual wayfaring). But as true heir of the founder of the Tijjani path, Shaykh Ibrahim Niass after exposing the vices of the soul and pointing out the virtues of the ideal master, stressed on the necessity of spiritual training that leads to the knowledge of ALLAH (Ma'arifa or Self-Realization) that gives human life its meaning.
